I think we can all agree that Madonna is incredibly talented. She can compel us to feel joy; sadness; hate; love and everything in between. No matter what you felt, dancing somehow became a necessity. She is also a little weird. She loves passion and controversy. Going down on a Black Jesus and burning crosses (‘Like A Prayer’)? ‘Justify My Love’ which could only be shown once on TV after midnight with a viewer discretion is advise warning as it went very ADULT.And a romance with a lion in ‘Like A Virgin’. Attention does get people to listen.
The Material Girl has done plenty of tunes for films. Almost thirty including ‘Dick Tracy’; ‘The Next Best Thing’; ‘League of Their Own’ and ‘Vision Quest’. All which she actually starred in. Multiple Act here, people. Most of her songs we can relate to. The power of those songs are not exactly set in one frame, most of the time, but we can find ourselves in them, at times.
20. Holiday: Fun dance song about friends and fun.
19. Material Girl: a fun song. It actually sound comedic as Madonna talks about what she wants in a guy. She like stuff. She regretted the song later, but still fun.
18. ‘Like A Virgin’: big controversy. Singing about sex on the radio was not a thing son much in the 80’s. It happened but not directly. Good song with a great beat. Speaking as a guy, made me think of girls when I got into my teens. Little awkward, but memorable.
17. ‘Take A Bow’: merely how wrong it is to play with a person’s heart. Using them as a play thing when the other truly loves the one who toying with them.
16. 'Bad Girl': tells us how empty life is full of sex; abuse; drugs and everything else slowing sucking the life out of you.
15. 'The Power of Goodbye': growing up and knowing when it is time to start moving in a new direction. A struggle no matter what the reason. Sad and necessary in life.
14. 'This Use to Be My Playground': merely goring pains. Looking to past not ready to let go. Good song for a good movie, 'A League of Their Own'.
13. 'Border Line': Enough is enough on how someone wants to be treated. Rightly so.
12. 'Open Your Heart' : breaking down potential walls we build to be safe. No one wants to be weak. That would be silly. But if we do not then we are fake. Especially to someone who wants to share our life.
11. ‘Express Yourself’: empowerment for women but respectful on either side. Everybody deserves to be treated equally. Unfortunately, an individual point of view can be skewed. Which makes everything a little more of struggle.
10. ‘Miss American Pie’: much different then Don Mclean's. More dance in her song with more of a feeling change not through history but through understanding. Perhaps even perception. Rightly used in the film, ‘Next Best Thing’ where she and her gay male friend form a new kind of family when they have a son together.
9. ‘Papa Don’t Preach': very good. I feel it is quite authentic as to what woman would feel in a moment like that. She needs her father to understand; his love and to back her up as she is choosing an uncertain road with the love of her life and a baby. A brave song.
8. ‘Rain’: a little purer moods type song. Literally, you can listen to this and feel like you are in the rain. The smell, the sound and the feel is there. I find rain storms quite relaxing. Quite reflective.
7. 'Into The Groove' : just a great dance tune.
6. 'Cherish': that wonderfully feeling of not only love but appreciation for the sense happiness a name brings about.
5. ‘Like A Prayer’: a great song, but the video still makes feel me weird. The song speaks of faith and the freedom of it, but the visuals are too sexual in my opinion. Not digging the burning crosses or the strange depiction of Jesus Christ in the video. Not referring to the color they used. But more the vibes.
4. 'La Isla Bonita': is a great party song. Especially around a barbecue with music and laughing about who knows what and who cares. Just being surrounded by good stuff makes it great to share memories and make memories.
3. 'I Remember': can relate anybody. We all have people in our lives that shaped us in what we learned from them. Friends; spouse; family. It all comes together inside who we are.
2. 'Crazy For You': that first song you hear when you first dance with that special person. It's paralyzing but you more of that feeling. You only find in special person in that one special moment.
1. ‘Live to Tell’: is by far my favorite song of Madonna’s. It has so much emotion in it. Used in the film, ‘At Close Range’ tells of secrets; uncertainties and dangers
