NOBODY CAN HELP THEMSELVES...

Writer: K.G. LewisK.G. Lewis

Hear me out. What I mean is that we are not islands onto ourselves. Can many of us dress ourselves, sure. Can most of feed ourselves, absolutely. But before we could do these things and everything else, we had to learn. We needed help.

A trend that, directly or indirectly, continues from start to finish. To walk; to talk; to eat; to even think in a pattern we had to learn through other’s teaching and experience. Watching others and asking questions. Storing such matters in our memories to access in moments we need that knowledge. Are we born with talents?

Yes, they were given to us by God. We learn by living and being surround by others. These talents become passions which are strengthened by skills that we can only get by connecting to the world. No computers but people. Trial and error. We should be careful not to easily say, ‘I did that on my own.’

Probably did at that moment physically but the experiences stored within the individual makes it possible to do. Good and bad comes from this explanation. Sometimes we need those we trust to say, ‘Get up and try.’ And other times, we need to hear, ‘Enough! You are hurting yourself or others.’

It is impossible to do all things alone. People are not perfect. People are not flawless. We got good and bad in us all. Our memories can remind us to be better. Experiences can show us where to improve. This will light the road to something grand as long as we look towards the light.

Playing tag in the dark is silly. The individual should stand but side by side with others. We are stronger together then segregated. Becoming a slab of a group, whether comfortably numb or overly sensitive, is not good. Have minds that don’t work.

Unity in caring guiding by one light, God, does. Charity; acceptance; forgiveness; understanding; love; mercy; hope; joy; peace is what we learn by sharing. Being an active demonstration of those wonderful things. But first, we learn it from another.

Why not this New Year, we try to be open to others with no requirements of politics; gender; race or any of those things. Let's not look for eye for an eye. It feeds only hate. Hate grows no matter how justified we might think. Only hate can destroy especially if we become eyes. No vegetation; no love; no growth and no life.

Let’s look at each moment as a moment for individual change. To learn new to add to the soul some of our experiences. To love even if we do not like the situation. Mutual Assured Survival. Difficult thing to do in a flawed world. Not impossible though.

We need to help each other so we can help ourselves. God gave us each other for that matter. God does not make mistakes. God gave us the talents; the tools; the experiences and memories to show us the road richly paved with lights. Open your hand and lead the way. Listen to God and find your way.
